OUT OF FOCUS

I like action and results. I can’t stand when I see things being done wrong, and I am almost always convinced I could do it better, unless of course that thing is parking a car or building something.

This is a problem because I end up trying to do way more than I should. Even my blog is a reflection of this. I write about teaching, church planting, parenting, and running. I can’t even stay focused on one topic for the blog!

My tagline is grace and imperfection because I need a lot of grace for all the areas of imperfection.

So, here is my latest confession of an area in which I need to give and receive grace.

CONFESSIONS OF A POTTY MOUTH

I’m a pastor, and I swear sometimes.

I try not to, but sometimes there are no other words that can quite express exactly the sentiment I want to convey.

For example, I might let a word or two slip when I am out running with my dog, Bruiser. …This is when I lose my sanctified mind!

CALLING ALL ANGELS

A couple days after my friend left, my mother arrived. I had called her right after I wrote about what it is like to be me right now.

She booked a flight immediately. She didn’t ask why I needed her; she didn’t hesitate. I called, and she came.

My mom cooked; she cleaned; she read with the kids; she played games with us; she listened; and she restored my peace.

I thank God for the angels among us- the people who show up and tell us with their actions and their words that God cares for our every need.

PLAY FOR ME

November is traditionally a month of gratitude, and I have been blessed with the gift of a few off notes to help me practice hearing the melody as we kick off the season of thanks.

GOOD FORM

It is my goal to live my life with good form. If someone is watching me as I go through life, I want them to see me and think, “She has beautiful form.” This is different than a beautiful form; although, I would like to have that too! The form I am talking about is the ability to handle both success and trials with grace and composure.

WEARY WOMEN

I am tired. I am really, really tired. It takes a lot of energy to be a woman. I am tired of hating how my butt looks in my jeans, worn out with wishing for bigger breasts and drained by considering how every bite of food will effect my thighs. I am exaggerating, but only a little. A woman is expected to […]

TALES FROM THE DINNER TABLE

Last night at dinner, my children asked my husband to tell them the ranch dressing story. This is a story he has told them many times before about accidentally pouring ranch dressing all over himself when he was a kid. When the story ended, the kids asked for another, and another, and another…. My wonderful husband regaled them with the numerous mistakes […]
