As She Goes
In these days, I have watched her continue to push, wiggle, and strive to get to things that we have fought to protect her from. I have been relieved for the battle to end, and sorrowed at the fact we are are both losing.

I have the best mirror in my bedroom. It makes me look just a tad leaner. My outfits look so great when I stand in front of that mirror in the morning!
I LOVE that mirror.
However, I have another mirror in the living room. This mirror doesn’t quite tell the truth either. This one will distort my shape depending on where I am standing. Unfortunately, the distortion always makes me look wider than I am in reality.
I HATE that mirror.
Neither mirror is an accurate reflection of my appearance, but they both have the ability to impact the way I feel about myself.

As I prepare to celebrate the blessing of my own amazing mother and the gift of her loving example, a piece of me is touched by grief. I am in awe of the vibrant and lovely lives of my children who have given me the honorable and tiresome title of mother, but I also understand the pain of the celebration. I have felt it sharply, and I have watched you, my dear friends, as you feel it too.
My mother has spent her life feeding us love. Her love languages are acts of service and quality time, but that is only because cooking is not technically one of the five love languages.
The world needs you, but you don’t have to carry the weight of it.
